Master of Physics and Applications

Sorbonne University’s Master of Physics and Applications offers a large range of specializations and programs which show physics in all its variety, from the foundations to its numerous applications. It also offers many opportunities in adjacent disciplines where physics is useful: engineering ; environmental and earth science ; astronomy, astrophysics and cosmology ; life sciences, etc.

It is also possible to study abroad as part of this degree.

Career opportunities

The Master of Physics and Applications leads to work in either public research laboratories or in industry or business, in one of the numerous fields covered in this major. It is possible to enter the workforce directly after graduation or following further study and a PhD. This Master’s degree is also appropriate for prospective teachers.



The first year of the Master of Physics and Applications (M1) gives students basic training in physics,  providing them with many options for their continuing study, particularly in one of the M2 specializations but also in other Master majors or diplomas of an equivalent level.

13 specializations are offered at M2 level :


This major is intended for students with a Bachelor of Science and Technology or equivalent, with a physics or physical chemistry major. Students who have completed the first year of their Master’s degree or with an engineering diploma majoring in physics may be admitted directly at the M2 level.


Enrolment applications for Master’s degrees can be made from mid-April to June.
