Recipients of the 2026 Légion d’honneur from Sorbonne University
On 1st January 2026, a new list of recipients of the Légion d’honneur was published in the Journal officiel, recognising several prominent figures from Sorbonne University’s community. This distinction, which is one of the most prestigious in France, celebrates their exceptional contribution to research, teaching and society.
The recipients
To the rank of Grand Officer

Serge Uzan, surgeon at AP-HP Paris hospitals and emeritus professor at Sorbonne University. Former dean of the Faculty of Medicine, he created the Sorbonne University - AP-HP University Cancer Institute.
To the rank of Knight
- Pierre Auger, emeritus research director at the French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development (IRD) in the international joint research unit, UMMISCO. He is a biologist and biomathematician, and a member of the French Academy of Sciences.
To the rank of Officer
- Michel Talagrand, research director at the Jussieu-Paris Rive Gauche Mathematics Institute, member of the French Academy of Sciences and winner of the 2024 Abel Prize.
