Research support and funding

The Directorate for Research and Development (DRV) of the Faculty of Science and Engineering plays a central role in implementing the faculty's research and innovation policy.

The DRV is actively involved in developing research strategy and drafting and monitoring the objectives and resources contract. It coordinates research support, ensuring that researchers have the resources and support they need to carry out their projects. The DRV works in synergy with the University Research and Innovation Directorate (DR&I), particularly to develop contractual activity and European projects. Its role also extends to promoting research results, encouraging knowledge transfer and partnerships with the socio-economic world. The DRV is therefore a key player in fostering innovation and enhancing the visibility of research carried out at the Faculty of Science and Engineering.

The Faculty of Science and Engineering has set up several research support programmes, demonstrating its commitment to scientific excellence and the career development of its researchers.

APACHE programme

The APACHE programme (Support for Ambitious Projects for Researchers, Lecturers, Teachers and Engineers) is a flagship initiative of the Faculty of Science and Engineering. It aims to increase researchers' chances of success in obtaining prestigious and competitive European funding. APACHE offers personalised support for the submission of large-scale projects such as ERC (Starting, Consolidator, Advanced, Synergy), Marie Curie networks, Horizon Europe projects. This support covers all stages of the process, from initial design to final submission, including a decisive cross-disciplinary pitch stage. The originality of APACHE lies in its collaborative approach, involving the DRV's development and partnership managers, former winners, and members of evaluation panels. This synergy of expertise maximises the candidates' chances of success.

Tremplins nouveaux entrants & nouvelles entrantes (Launchpads for New Entrants)

This biennial programme (alternating with the Emergence programme run by the Sorbonne University Alliance) specifically aims to support teaching and research staff and researchers who have recently been recruited or promoted to the faculty of Science and Engineering. In particular, it recognises the crucial importance of the early years in establishing a successful research career. The "Launchpads " offer financial and logistical support to help newly recruited staff to start their research projects, establish their teams, and integrate into the research ecosystem of the faculty of Science and Engineering. This programme may include start-up funds, priority access to equipment, or mentoring by senior researchers. By investing in new talent, the faculty of Science and Engineering ensures the renewal and dynamism of its research community, while attracting the best international profiles.

This programme demonstrates the commitment of the university and the Faculty of Science and Engineering to training the next generation of researchers by funding additional doctoral contracts on particularly promising and innovative topics. They are open to Sorbonne University lecturers and researchers from EPSTs assigned to UMRs within the Faculty of Science and Engineering. Projects are selected on the basis of their scientific quality, innovative nature and potential impact. This programme not only supports outstanding doctoral research, but also strengthens links between the faculty's various research teams.
