The French-Canadian Three-Two Programme in Chemistry
-
Course duration: Three to five years
-
Languages of instruction: English or English & French
-
Course locations: Canada & France
-
Diplomas delivered : One bachelor’s & one master’s or two master’s
Programme Overview
This programme will draw upon the large number of excellent students who elect to study chemistry, assuring that their years of university education includes a substantial international component, and providing the perspective necessary for them to make informed decisions about educational and career choices.
Programme Outline
The programme offers students wishing to originally enroll at UBC an attractive five-year fast track leading to a bachelor’s from the University of British Columbia, coupled with a highly recognisable master’s from Sorbonne University.
Year 1 through year 3 | Location: Canada The programme begins for a UBC student with three years of learning the fundamentals of chemistry at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. |
Year 4 through year 5* | Location: France Spending two years abroad, the student from Vancouver completes the requirements remaining for a BSc degree from UBC and earns a master’s degree from Sorbonne University. |
* IMPORTANT
Some teaching at Sorbonne University might be conducted in French with the possibility to request resources and support materials in English. Our local programme coordinators are there to provide information, help and guidance to prospective students wishing to spend their fourth and fifth year at Sorbonne University as part of the programme (scroll down for the contact details).
Students enrolled at Sorbonne University will need to complete at least two years of master’s study (M1 & M2) in order to earn their master’s degree from Sorbonne University. During their M1, the programme offers them the possibility to spend one to two semesters at UBC (winter + summer sessions including a lab project). They can stay for a supplementary year at UBC before or after finishing their M1 or M2, allowing them to earn (all in all) two master’s diplomas in chemistry : one from the University of British Columbia and one from Sorbonne University.

Entry Requirements & Admissions
- Step 1: The University of British Columbia (UBC) recruits students for enrolment in the Three-Two Programme in chemistry from high school.
- Step 2: After the first semester of the third year, a UBC evaluation committee will consider the academic records of Three-Two students electing to study abroad.
- Step 3: Those who have demonstrated excellence in their mastery of coursework in chemistry and related subjects will be presented to Sorbonne University with strong recommendations for admission.

Step 1: Sorbonne University recruits students for enrolment in its master’s programme in chemistry. When applying, the student mentions their wish to pursue a master's in chemistry as part of the Three-Two Programme. The student needs to have demonstrated excellence in their mastery of coursework in chemistry and related subjects to be accepted in the programme.
-
Step 2: A Sorbonne University evaluation committee will consider the applications and assess the academic records of graduate students electing to study at Sorbonne University and at UBC. The committee will then present the successful candidates to UBC with strong recommendations for admission.
Benefits of attending the programme
