Application deadline

November 25, 2024 at 12:00pm

for departure in 2025-2026

These programs enable students enrolled at one university (the home institution) to pursue part of their studies at another university (the host institution) for one semester, but for no more than one academic year.

Students are selected by MICEFA, with a pre-selection by their home university based on their motivation, an analysis of their academic curriculum and the requirements of the host institution.

Informations

  • For the academic year: August-May
  •     1st semester: August-December
  •     2nd semester: January-May
  •     5 semesters available for Sorbonne Université (all faculties included)

To apply, you must :

  •     Be enrolled at Sorbonne University during the year preceding your departure abroad.
  •     Have completed the 1st year of your bachelor's degree.
  •     Candidates leaving in M1 or M2 must agree to follow courses at undergraduate level.
  •     Good academic results: minimum average of 12/20.
  •     Have a sufficient level of English: minimum of 80 in TOEFL or 6.5 in IELTS.
  •     Be able to justify the resources required by the American university to issue the visa.

There are no exceptions!

  • No tuition fees at the host university.
  • Sorbonne Université diploma awarded after validation of the study period. Only the courses or work mentioned in the teaching contract will be taken into account for the validation of the diploma, on presentation of the certificates of achievement issued by the host university.
  • Students participating in the program are responsible for their own travel, accommodation, health insurance and third-party liability/repatriation costs.
  • Students with scholarships continue to benefit from the national higher education grant based on social criteria.

Note that MICEFA is a program with many costs that a mobility grant can never fully cover.

You must therefore be well prepared financially for your MICEFA year:

  •     TOEFL or IELTS language test: approx. 200€.
  •     MICEFA application fee: 300€.
  •     Campus fees: depending on the host university (between €100 and €1,500 per semester)
  •     Health insurance: depending on host university (approx. €1,000 to €1,500). Some universities accept MICEFA's AIG insurance (€250 per semester or €350 per year). Please note that healthcare costs are very high in the USA.
  •     Visa fees: SEVIS fees + DS160 fees = approx. 400€.
  •     Airfare: between 800€ and 1,200€.
  •     On-site expenses: between 6,000€ and 12,000€ per semester (including housing, transportation, food, purchase of textbooks, etc.)

Take the TOEFL or IELTS before autumn, so you can get your results before the end of November

You can revise your TOEFL or IELTS at Sorbonne Université's language department:
Tour 43-53 - 1st floor - office 102
Tel. 01 44 27 74 23

  •     For TOEFL: score must be equal to or higher than 80/120 (some American universities require a score of 100/120).
  •     IELTS: score must be greater than or equal to 6.5 (some universities require a higher score).

Choose your host university according to the courses it offers: you should choose the university that will enable you to take courses as close as possible to those you would need to take at Sorbonne Université.

You can choose 1 university in 3 different states and rank them in order of preference: http://www.micefa.org

choice 1 = gold - choice 2 = silver - choice 3 = bronze

01 - Make an appointment  with the mobility coordinator for your specialty to discuss your mobility.

02 - To finalize the pedagogical program for your mobility, you can consult the directories of the various partners at the MICEFA office in Paris:
44 rue Boissonade - 75014 Paris
Tel. 01 40 51 76 96
E-mail: info@micefa.org
Open daily from 9.30am to 5pm.
But the quickest and easiest way is to consult the university websites, via the MICEFA website.

03 - To help you make your choice, you can also take into account the cost of living in the host country, accommodation options, etc. If you consult the information on universities, you'll see that the highest cost of living is in New York, San Francisco, Miami or Los Angeles, while states like New Mexico, Arizona and Louisiana remain less expensive, not less interesting.

04 - Specific cases :

California: you must choose 4 universities in the CSU network, and CSU will then decide on your placement among these 4 choices.
CUNY: there are no dormitories at CUNY except, exceptionally, at Hunter College, but this option is unreliable. As a result, students attending CUNY will have to find (often very expensive) accommodation on their own.
Manhattan College: this university requires students to live in the campus residence.
Canada: mobility opportunities exist in Waterloo and Glendo.
Puerto Rico: MICEFA still has places available at this university, where living costs are very low.

Guide

01 - Don't wait until the last minute to put together your MICEFA application file, especially as it's a very heavy one! You'll need time to collect, among other documents, letters of recommendation from three teachers, copies of your transcripts and their translations, etc.)!

The same goes for submitting your application to the mobility office... Late applications will not be accepted!

02 - Check the MICEFA website regularly, as well as those of the universities you are applying to.

In particular, check the list of courses open to international exchange students, as well as the list of documents required to apply.

03 - You will be directly informed of the outcome of your application by MICEFA.

It is therefore imperative that you notify the International Mobility Office of the university's decision, or of any withdrawal on your part!
